Should Inside That Ad Start a YouTube Channel?

Hello World,

I’ve been thinking about how I could possibly start an Inside That Ad (ITA) YouTube channel. Do you guys think that’s even possible? The reason I am considering a YouTube channel for the ITA blog is for three reasons:

Reasons:

  1. There isn’t advertising and or a marketing channel like the ITA blog on YouTube. You know, a channel the discusses the ad as content along with the ad’s creators (i.e. ad agency or marketing firm.
  2. YouTube as a marketing channel will expose the blog via its videos to a wider audience. That audience will already be there and searching for videos to watch.
  3. If videos take off with respect to views, the YouTube partner program can be another source of revenue for the blog. Let’s be completely honest with you. I’m trying to make the blog, Teespring sales and possibly the videos a legitimate source of income. Right now, everything I’m doing online to try to generate income can be considered simply a hobby.

Your Job

The reason I need you, the audience is to not only support my endeavor but also help me develop a possible format for the videos that will be uploaded on to the new YouTube channel.

What should the new channel provide in a value exchange? Because you can’t be on YouTube just for the sake of being on YouTube. The thing is, I haven’t found a YouTube channel that provides similar content to ITA in video format. Therefore, I don’t have a good example to follow. Forbes has an okay article that features the top six YouTube channels marketing professionals should follow in 2019. But to me, the featured channels still don’t answer the questions this blog was created to answer. I mean, none of the channels I read about in the article discuss an ad as part of a campaign, why the ad was created, what the client’s needs were and most importantly who the agency/marketing firm behind the ad and client was and why were they selected?

Here are the six channels Mentioned in Forbes’s “The Six Best YouTube Channels For Marketers” article:

Best Channels

  1. Hubspot is an all-around great resource for marketers, and their YouTube channel is just as helpful.
  2. TED talks are a popular favorite and a go-to source for work-day inspiration.
  3. Smart Passive Income is a passive income that is connected to his site and extremely popular podcast. I am actually listening to one of Pat Flynn’s SPI podcast as I am writing this article
  4.  MOZ‘s marketing conference on their YouTube channel.
  5.  Mindvalley Insights channel covers marketing, business, and tech strategies; and is a great source to keep up with marketing news and articles from influencers.
  6. Behind the Brand features interviews with business experts from innovative brands and companies, as well as their technical advice.

They Don’t Do What We Do

Again none of these channels do what is done here on ITA with the written word. Therefore, a video channel may not be a could transition for the brand. But when I sit down and think about it, what does ITA really provide its audience? All the above channels answer some type of question their audience has. Does ITA do the same thing? Let me know in the comments.

Lastly, I want to mention that I have thought about doing videos before but I couldn’t really figure out how to execute it creatively or technically. I discuss ads that I like on the blog by showing cool and creative ads (i.e. commercials) usually via an embedded YouTube video and then the commentary is the main content. I can’t include a video (the ad) that I didn’t create and don’t own with a recording of me as a talking head. I’d have to the actual video file of the ad, import it a video editing program and add to it a recording of me talking. The process of creating a post would take a lot of effort and time commitment, even if it was just once a week.
